Ecology blogging is growing again!
Two blogs that had previously retired just announced that they're back.
I sat down to work this morning and a quick browse of Bluesky* led me to some wonderful news: The folks at Jabberwocky Ecology (Ethan White and Morgan Ernest) and Dynamic Ecology (Meghan Duffy, Jeremy Fox, and Brian McGill) have both announced that they’re back in the game! They both independently arrived at their announcements this morning. How fun!
I think science community blogging had atrophied as much of the conversation moved over to a more interactive network on twitter. But as the social media landscape has fractured, and the limitations of microblogging format grow frustrating, I think it’s clear that blogs and newsletters (or whatever you call what this is) are a perennial venue for conversation. And the more are involved, the better!
When I moved from Small Pond Science to Science For Everyone months ago, this came with a recommitment on my part to write more frequently. While I never officially sunsetted my earlier blog, I had slowed down. It’s affirming to see that others have been on a parallel track and have also felt that this is a missing part of our community and their work. And I look forward to how things evolve!
At some point Bluesky will be open for registration, but add codes are getting easy to come upon. Send me an email if you want one.
Definitely excited to see everyone ramping up again!
Thanks for the shout-out Terry! -Jeremy Fox
