Sign up for Mentor Match 2021!

We’re excited to announce that EEB Mentor Match is now open for the 2021-2022 academic year!

This program is designed to connect students to volunteer mentors who will support them as they apply to grad school and/or with help applying for graduate fellowships.

We recognize a lot of students don’t have access to a deep and well-resourced support network to give them the information, advice, and editing that they need to put their best foot forward when applying for opportunities. If you’re graduating college, or have recently graduated, and would like an experienced wingperson to help you though this process, please sign up to be paired up with a mentor!

If you’d like to be one of these mentors, please sign up as well! EEB Mentor Match has grown every year, and that means we’ll need to expand our base of mentors. If you’ve signed up in previous years, please do so again this year. (If you haven’t gotten a mentee paired up with you in the past, we still might have a person who will need you this year!)

This program is for mentors and mentees who are in “EEB” in the broad sense: if you do ecology and evolutionary Biology or related fields such as organismal biology, conservation biology, wildlife science, marine science, etc. If you would like to know more about this program, please see the FAQ on the EEB Mentor Match website. This program is run on a volunteer basis by myself and Dr. Samniqueka Halsey and has been in operation since 2017.

The inspiration for this program was to help ameliorate the documented inequities in GRFP awards, as well as increasing access to doctoral programs for students. Providing mentorship to talented students who deserve more support won’t fix all of our problems, but it’s something that we need a lot more of, and I hope y’all are available to help.

If you’re not in one of the fields supported by EEB Mentor Match, there are other Mentor Matches, such as Earth Science Mentor Match, and also Cientifico Latino has a similar mentorship program for folks in all kinds of STEM disciplines, which just did its 2021 launch last week.
